Clean Eating Guidelines:
And lastly, we want to share with you a guideline of foods to include and avoid to support you in your weight loss journey! Remember, you don’t have to count calories if you eat fresh and keep the following tip in mind: make sure half of your plate is made up of colorful fruits and veggies.
Vegetables:
Fresh, frozen (read list of ingredients), raw, steamed, sautéed, roasted, soups, dried, 100% vegetable juice.
Avoid: Canned, breaded, cream (or other types containing gluten or dairy).
Fruits:
Unsweetened, fresh, dried, or frozen (read list of ingredients), 100% fruit juices (in moderation).
Avoid: Fruit beverages, canned, syrups, and fruit desserts.
Whole Grains:
Amaranth, Buckwheat, Millet, Oats (gluten free), Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum, Teff, 100% gluten free grain products (crackers, breads, cereals, pasta).
Avoid: Wheat, Rye, Barley, Kamut, Couscous, Orzo, grain products made from these (bread, crackers, cereals, pasta).
Legumes: This will be your main protein source:
Black beans, cannellini, garbanzo, kidney beans, lentils, peas, peanuts, soybean, edamame, tofu, tempeh, miso.
Avoid: Any of the above that contain gluten and/or are highly processed.
Nuts and Seeds: Great source of healthy fats and protein.
Almonds, Brazil nuts, Cashews, Pecans, Walnuts, Chia, Flaxseed, hempseed, pumpkin seed, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, nut and seed butters from all these.
Animal Protein: Limit to 2-3 times a week:
Eggs (organic), fish (wild-caught).
Dairy-Free Alternatives:
Almond, Coconut, Rice, Soy, Cashew, Hazelnut, Hemp (buy unsweetened milk and yogurt options).
Beverages:
Water, teas (unsweetened not processed), coconut water.
Avoid: Coffee, soda, fruit beverages, and other beverages high in sugar.
Sweeteners:
Brown rice syrup, Honey, Maple syrup, sweeten with fresh or dried fruits.
Avoid: sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners.
