6 Refreshing Ways to Stay Hydrated

Many of us only remember to drink water when we are thirsty or when we’re trying to shed those extra pounds. But it just so happens that every cell and tissue in our body needs water in order to properly function. Staying hydrated is important for healthy glowing skin, helping our body eliminate toxins, supporting weight management, maintaining the temperature of our bodies, helping keep our joints healthy and lubricated, and even helping with energy and mood.

With all these benefits, it’s no wonder we perceive drinking water as the main go-to health tip for just about everything. And just like any other health tip, improving your water intake is a matter of getting into the habit of doing something and sticking with it. In the beginning, we might need extra help and reminders, but it’s very important to not only drink water when you are feeling thirsty, since this in itself is already a sign of dehydration.

This initially may not be the easiest advice to follow and stick to, especially for people who are not huge fans of drinking water in the first place. This is why I have compiled some great options to help you stay hydrated.

1.Keep a bottle of water with you at all times

Although this tip is not an alternative to drinking water, it’s a great strategy to help make sure that you drink more water, and it works as a constant reminder. This is probably my number one tip, and what helps me personally to drink more water at work and when I’m out and about. Yes, I take a reusable water bottle with me everywhere I go.

This tip is a great one for those who aren’t huge fans of water or want to keep your days exciting with different variations and flavors of infused water. Here are some great options for you to try this season for a fresh, hydrating day!

3. Enjoy fruits and veggies rich in water

Other than actually drinking water, did you know that you can stay more hydrated if you eat your water, too? Sound strange? Many fruits and veggies are a great source of water, and, in fact, are made up of at least 90% water! Some of my favorites include cucumber, tomatoes, cauliflower, watermelon (yum!), strawberries, spinach, grapefruit, and cantaloupe.

4.Have a smoothie for breakfast or afternoon snack

Smoothies are a great way to give your body an extra boost of nutrients and help you maintain a healthy weight. Smoothies are also a great way to make sure that you get more water in your body through fruits, veggies, water, and milk (or alternative) depending on the ingredients you use. So start your day off just right with a delicious, hydrating, and energizing smoothie.

5.Savor a delicious homemade popsicle

Popsicles may sound more like an indulgence, but when done right, they can be quite healthy. Simply blend your favorite fruits with a little bit of water and freeze it in a pop mold. This is a great way to stay hydrated, and you’ll feel good about your dessert choices!

6.Enjoy a nice cup of tea in the morning and evening

Every morning, as soon as I arrive at my desk, I am already enjoying a nice cup of tea. It helps set the mood for the entire day. It’s rich in antioxidants and is yet another great way to add a little flavor to water. What’s important to remember here is to make sure that you are making your own cup of tea (not purchasing an already made and sweetened version), and if you do wish to sweeten it, be mindful of quantities you use.
