PureEats: Raw Vegan Cake For Chocolate Lovers!


The hardest part about making healthy desserts is finding a recipe that actually tastes like dessert!

After being on a quest to find the perfect sugar free recipe, I think that I might just have found a few winners. Coming from someone that knows how to appreciate the good and chocolate things in life, this fudge pie takes the cake! It’s hard to believe that there was not a single gram of added sugar in this recipe – only the delicious fudge melting in your mouth with a wonderful lingering freshness from the peppermint.

It has happened in the past that I found a reasonably healthy dessert but it was either a pain to make or had pricey ingredients. Do you want some more good news? Other than this recipe being added sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan, and raw, it also has only four simple ingredients: ripe bananas, cacao powder, coconut butter, and peppermint oil.

For the coconut butter, you can make your own from shredded coconuts. All you have to do is blend about 1 ½ cups of shredded coconut with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a potent blender or food processor. I used a food processor so it took me a few minutes longer to get it to the consistency I wanted. You can also simply purchase it if you prefer.

It’s very important to not replace the coconut butter with coconut oil, because this is what will help give the chocolate pie its consistency and flavor.

Now that you know how to make your very own coconut butter, let’s get to the fudge delight!


  • 2 ripe bananas (the riper the better!)
  • 2 tablespoons of cacao powder
  • 1 cup of coconut butter
  • 2 drops of peppermint oil
  • Optional: finely shaved chocolate to decorate


  1. Blend all the ingredients (except the chocolate to decorate) in a food processor/ blender
  2. Spread into container (pie shaped and small)
  3. Put in freezer for 2 hours

Serves 4 people (1 small pie)
